Seasonal Changes

As the summer winds down and autumn beckons, there's so much happening here at Leafy Hollow! Whether you're a longtime follower or a newcomer, we've got plenty of updates to keep you in the loop.

Although the flowers are looking rather sad and tired after the hot, dry summer, the trees look stunning, particularly in the little Acer copse - deep reds, yellows and burnt orange catch the eye. Many of the deciduous trees have already started to drop their leaves. The paths have become rustling carpets just waiting for the garden rake!

What to do in the garden

Now is the perfect time to take your autumn lavender cuttings. Cut the top 5-10cm of new strong growth. Carefully strip off the bottom leaves and pop the remaining stem into a tray of course sand or fine pumice. (You may choose to dip the ends into rooting powder to encourage rapid root growth). Mist the cuttings regularly to prevent drying out. If possible, keep them under cover in a warm, light environment. By spring you should have well-rooted cuttings ready for potting up.

Workshop updates

February and March have been popular months for the hands-on workshops. January ended with Creating Beautiful Balms. Among other creations we produced a beautiful healing balm containing comfrey, kawakawa and calendula - all from the garden. This will soon be featured as a new product in our online shop.

Soapmaking, Blissful Bathtime, The Sensory art of Natural Perfumery all proved to be popular workshops; fully booked with excellent feedback from participants. These will be repeated throughout the year so, if you are interested, do get in touch.
