Soothe your aches and pains with this latest formulation from the Lab at Leafy Hollow. Heal Me Balm is created from some of the most potent healing herbs in the garden.
Comfrey – Symphytum officinale leaf (commonly known as Knitbone)
Comfrey grows freely in the garden from spring through to late autumn. It is known to have been cultivated for its healing properties since 400BC. Commonly used to make ointments, balms and creams to ease painful muscles, joint complaints, bruises, sprains and to accelerate wound healing. Comfrey contains two important therapeutic chemicals: Rosmarinic acid- analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, Allantoin – stimulates new tissue growth.
Kawakawa – Macropiper excelsum
Kawakawa grows in native bush and gardens around the North and Upper South Islands of Aotearoa. Kawakawa has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for many ailments by the Maori population of Aotearoa. Did you know that University of Auckland researchers have identified 60 biologically active compounds in Kawakawa leaves? The most abundant compound is Pellitorine which has a numbing effect. This could explain its use for pain relief in rongoa Maori.
Calendula – Calendula officinalis
Calendula grows abundantly throughout the garden all year round. I allow it to self-seed at will so there are always plenty of flowers to harvest. The use of calendula flowers in medicine dates to the 12th century. It has been used in tinctures, ointment, balm and creams to soothe inflamed, damaged skin and to promote wound healing.
